I will always sing you songs

Dear Dhaani, there are only a  few things your Pappa is good at , singing is one of them.  Singing has been a hobby close to my heart for as long as I remember. There is a complimentary skill which adds to it, that I remember lyrics of most of the old songs better than I remember any of my b.arch or mba lessons. So , this promise is an easy one. And also one which is a way of ensuring I always have an audience for my singing. Thank God you like my singing, or at least I think so. In a way, it's a two-way promise then. I will always sing you songs and you will always listen to them. Okay? I started singing to you when you were inside your mumma s womb. They say it's good to communicate to your child while she is still enjoying her swim in the amniotic fluid. It was one of my ways of communicating with you. Some songs which you liked then were: 1. Chanda hai tu , Mera Suraj hai tu 2. Lakdi ki kaathi, kaathi pe ghoda 3. Mere Ghar aayi ek nanhi pari The thir...

My daughter - My teacher

Of all the teachers i had, my kid has been the most efficient. The above might look like an irony. Should it not be the other way round. The children are supposed to be students and us, the adults are the teachers, right? Well Yes, most of the times. However, I have realized that it is great to switch roles at times. For, children are great teachers. Its another matter that we adults have been ruined so much by the worldliness that we have not remained student material. I was watching a video on teachers day where Sadhguru was asked on the importance of teachers day and how do we teach our children. His point was very pertinent. Who is the blissful one between the parent and the child? Should the blissful one teach the worried one or vice versa? Between me and Dhaani, she is the blissful one. She is the one who has brought within her all the pure learnings of the universe, which are unadulterated with the calculations and biases of life. She has the unconditioned view which...

Pappa - Kya hai Yeh?

Pappa, Kya  hai  Yeh ; Dhaani asked. Yeh color hai,  i  said, pointing at the purple crayon She picked the blue one and  encored   Pappa ,  Kya  hai  Yeh ? This is a usual conversation which i have been having with Dhaani since she has turned 18 months. She points to random things and goes - Kya hai yeh? And we are loving this phase of hers. Only it gets a bit repetitive after 20 "kyahaiyeh"s. What is good is after some 20 questions, she actually remembers " Kya hai Yeh". It's fun when your child starts asking questions. And starts asking so many of them. It is your chance to show her the world through your eyes. It is your chance to participate at the beginning of her exploration of this world. Its the first sign of her empowerment. That she will ask questions, till she is not satisfied with the answer. That she will be able to guide others someday, to their answers. At the same time, it is scary when your c...
